Phishing

Phishing is an attempt by fraudsters to "fish" for your personal and confidential information, like User ID, Password, etc. through e-mails. This information is then used to take money out of your bank account through a funds transfer.

DO's and DON'Ts
  • Always type the website address. Be wary of clicking on links; they could lead to false websites.
  • Do not transact or share confidential data on non-https websites.
  • Do not enter your confidential data in any window that may pop-up while you are carrying out a financial transaction online.
  • Do not open e-mails or attachments in e-mails sent from people you don't know.

Online Scams

Fraudsters send attractive offers through letters, e-mails, calls, SMS messages asking you to deposit money to participate in schemes that "sound too good to be true". Later, they withdraw the money and stop further communication.
Here is a list of the most common frauds:
  • Contests and lotteries that you had not registered for, asking you to make a payment for receiving your prize
  • Emails appearing to have been sent from large corporations, public institutions and regulatory bodies
  • Phone calls or SMSes offering jobs that you had not applied for; intimations of gifts or inheritances supposed to originate from a foreign country, asking you for personal information
  • High-yield investment plans and multi-level marketing schemes offering unealistic returns on investment; please checks the credentials of the person offering these

SIM-Swap involves a fraudster issuing a duplicate SIM card which is registered under your name. With a SIM card that shares the same number, the fraudster can stalk and save your bank related information via Mobile Banking transactions.

HERE ARE A FEW TIPS TO PREVENT A SIM-SWAP:
Enquire with your mobile operator if you have no network connectivity and are not receiving any calls or SMS’ for unusually long periods
Contact your Service Provider immediately as soon as you receive an indication of a probable SIM-Swap
Do not switch off your cell phone in the event you receive numerous unknown calls. It could be a ploy to get you to turn off your phone and prevent you from noticing a tampered network connection
Register for instant alerts (SMS and E-mail) that inform you of any activity regarding your bank account
Check your bank statements and online banking transaction history regularly so you can identify any issues or irregularities

SIMPLE TRICKS THAT WILL MAKE YOUR DAILY COMPUTER and INTERNET ROUTINE EASIER





1. Just type in the name of the website in the address bar on a browser and press Ctrl+Enter to add the 'www.' and '.com', prefix and suffix automatically.

2. Press the Windows Key+F to quickly open the search bar to search for files or folders.

3. Press the Windows key,  and U twice in quick succession to shut down the computer.

4. Use Ctrl+K to add a hyperlink to a bit of selected text.

5. You can undo an Undo by pressing Ctrl+Y. Simple

6. Squeeze down the Alt key and press Esc to toggle between windows and applications in the order that they were opened.

7. Press Alt+Space Bar to quickly open the menu tab for any active window.

8. Use Shift+Delete to permanently delete a file instead of sending it to the Recycle Bin first.

15.  While Alt+F4 will close an open window, Ctrl+F4 will close an open tab.

16. Ctrl+P will directly open up your print options tab.

17. Press Ctrl+D to directly bookmark an open page on your browser.

18. Pressing F7 on a PC or Mac does a quick spell check.

19. The command for creating something new is Ctrl+N

So, if it's a browser, the command will open a new window, and for word, image editing or any other process likewise, the command will open a new page.

20. Windows Key+Space Bar will change the input language, and change the keyboard layout.

21. Press down the Windows Key and a number to open the corresponding application pinned to the taskbar.

22. Use the Windows Key+R command to open the "run" command from where you can access any application or program by typing its name and hitting Enter.

23. Pressing down Ctrl and then either pressing the Homebutton or the End button will take you to the top and the bottom of a page, respectively.

24. You can select multiple items (including tabs on your browser) by just holding down the Ctrl button and selecting the group of items you would like selected together.

COOL GOOGLE SEARCH TIPS TO FIND THINGS MUCH EASILY





1) Google can be your calculator: Type a math problem into the search box and Google will compute it. You can spell out the equation in words (four plus four), use numbers and symbols (4+4) or both (4+four). Other than addition, you can do minus, divide, multiply, percentage etc.
2) Unit Conversion : You can use Google search to convert between many different units of measurement of height, weight, and volume among many others. So when you want to know what is the equivalent pounds of 5.5kg you can view it by entering (5.5kg in pounds) in the search box. You can also try out other unit conversion too as you want.
 
3) Currency Conversion : As the name suggests, Google can tell exchange rates between any currencies. For example, you want to convert Euro in US Dollars, type (euro in usd).
4) Search with keywords in a given sequence : If you want to search Google in the same sequence as you entered in the search box, then double quote the search string,ex: “the key to success”.
5) Find local time of any city in the world: If you want to know the current time of any city, just type “time” before the name of the city.
6) Synonym Search: If you want to search not only for your search term but also for its synonyms, place the tilde sign (~) in front of your search term.


7) Search based on File Type : You can search any keyword in any of the File Type format like DOC, PDF, XLS, PPT etc, just type for example “admission in mba college filetype:pdf”.
8 ) Exclude specific word: You can exclude specific keyword with the minus operator(-) like “Exclude specific keywords with the minus operator like new books -amazon which excludes all results from amazon site.
9) Track Flight Status: Enter the airline service name and flight number into the Google search box and get back the arrival and departure times of that particular flight.
 
10) Make Google your quick dictionary : Type “define” before any English word into the Google search box and get the quick definition at the top of the search results.
 
11) Get the weather status of any city in the world: Type “weather” before any city name or city code and get the weather status of that city at top of the Google web page.
